BOBKonf 2025
After giving a tutorial in last year's edition of the BOBKonf, I enjoyed it as a normal attendee in 2025. As always, I was very keen to visit Berlin, one of my favourite cities. Coding while riding a train has a very special appeal to me. So I had managed to get quite some stuff done during these hours. After some delicious Berlin Libanese street food the evening ended with more hotel coding :)
But let's talk about the conference.
The keynote about Local-first Software initially didn't really catch my attention that much and it started a bit slow in my opinion. But in the end, it turned out to be really interesting and the topic has a lot of momentum going for it.
The talk I enjoyed the most was Beyond the Basics of LSP by Xavier. He made it super entertaining and his experiences with the LSP for OCaml resonated with my own for F# and other functional languages quite well.
Looking into Idris and Lean was on my ToDo-List for a long time. So the sessions by Guillaume and Joachim were very informative and fun.
With outstanding eloquence and a very clear train of thought, Franz presented his views on OOP. He came just after Mike talked about Things We Never Told Anyone About Functional Programming. These two slots just after each other sparked a lot of good discussions. Kudos to the program people for that decision.
The last talk by Ivett was a wonderful and energetic reflection on a tough real world problem. I highly recommend watching all these talks when they are made available.
I secured an after-conference dinner ticket for me and was not disappointed. It turned out to be an absolute feast at an Indian restaurant with good, interesting people at my table. After the dinner I caught up with some more friends who didn't attend.
My gratitude goes out to all people involved in making BOBKonf such an awesome event. Already looking forward to next year.
